Round Hill Solar Project Overview

Round Hill Solar is a proposed 83-MW solar project located in Augusta County approximately 1.5 miles north of Stuarts Draft and two miles southeast of the intersection of Interstate 81 (I-81) and White Hill Road. The solar facility will cover approximately 560 acres of land on an overall 880-acre site, comprised of 11 parcels.

The project will strengthen Augusta County’s economy through job creation, community partnerships and a capital investment of over $100 Million in the County which will generate over $6 Million in revenue and tax payments to the County. Learn more about our Project Benefits.
Photovoltaic (PV) solar panels are proposed to be installed on a single-axis tracking system, producing 83-MW of power, which is enough to power 14,000 Virginia households with clean, renewable electricity.

As of August 2020, the project is currently seeking special use permit approval through Augusta County. After the special use process, the project will still need to obtain state permit-by-rule (PBR) approval from Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ); site plan and erosion control plan approval from Augusta County, and access and entrance plan approval by Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
Project development and construction is estimated to begin in Q3 2021 or Q4 2021 and is estimated to be completed by Q4 2022, with project operations beginning in Q1 2023.

Round Hill Solar is being developed by Strata Solar via a wholly-owned subsidiary, Round Hill Solar, LLC. The property is currently owned by several private landowners, and is under long-term lease to Round Hill Solar, LLC.
